Discover Our Artistic Journey

A group of actors came together at the end of 1993 to break the mould of director-led productions opting for a more organic approach, with each member of the team being equally responsible for the production, and bringing their personal set of skills and imagination to each project.

Since the first production of Candide in 1994, Theatre Anon has worked and collaborated with other theatre companies (local and overseas), directors and creatives, starting off as part of a cluster of young ensemble theatre companies, training and performing regularly at MITP, Valletta (now Valletta Campus Theatre).

Theatre Anon has continued to collaborate, create and perform in its particular style, a result of seeking innovative ways to overcome its challenges.

Our Goals
To promote professionalism and quality in theatre performances, to extend the lifecycle of productions, to improve accessibility of the arts to wider audiences, and to collaborate with local and international artists across different disciplines for the cross-fertilisation of ideas and the continuous development of skills.

To create a form of theatre which pushes the limits of the theatrical language while stimulating and entertaining the audience
Our Future
Looking ahead, we aim to deepen our collaborative spirit through the Hut 7 Collective, nurturing the next generation of ensemble performers while continuing to push the boundaries of theatrical language. We remain committed to expanding our community outreach, particularly through the ACTive Age programme, and to creating innovative, risk-taking productions that reach wider and more diverse audiences, both locally and on the international stage.

Theatre Anon acknowledges that this approach is becoming the norm as young groups and creatives come together as cooperatives or companies to actively create exciting and relevant performances filled with fresh ideas and a willingness to take risks. 

With this in mind, Theatre Anon have rekindled the spirit of a creative cluster, by collaboratiing with fellow ensemble companies Du’ Theatre and WhatsTheirNames Theatre, and working more closely with a new generation of young and talented performers who had enthusiastically joined our 2023 production ‘Dik is-Sigra f’nofs ta’ Triq’.

These performers are willing to continue to train, create and participate with the other companies as part of the Hut 7 Collective project. The Hut 7 Collective project took off in end April 2024 when Theatre Anon, Du’ Theatre and WhatsTheirNames Theatre began using Fra Diegu Hall following conclusion of a lease agreement funded by Arts Council Malta through the Theatre Companies Programme.
